Okmulgee County softball teams hit the fields last week for a slate of tournament games that brought high drama, big bats and hard-fought contests. From Beggs to Dewar, Preston to Henryetta and Morris to Okmulgee, local squads showed grit in both wins and losses across multiple venues.
— Beggs Lady Demons: A Week of Highs & Lows The Beggs Lady Demons opened the week with a tough 5-0 loss to the Prague Lady Red Devils. Despite solid defensive play – including flawless fielding by Willow Herod with three chances – Beggs couldn’t crack Prague’s pitching. Abigail Harmon and Haylee Baughn each managed a hit, but Prague’s Jaxcyn Goodnight was unstoppable at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Lady Demons bounced back in emphatic fashion later that day, routing the Yale Lady Bulldogs 13-2. Herod was the hero, driving in four runs on two hits, including a pair of RBI singles. Beggs exploded for five runs in the first inning and six more in the second, powered by hits from Ruby Tenison (3-for-3), Adlei Coale and Harmon. Kaylynn Hamilton earned the win in the circle, striking out four.
On Saturday, Beggs ran into trouble against the Broken Arrow Junior Lady Tigers, falling 8-0. Despite solid defensive work with no errors and two hits from Emma Trimble, Beggs struggled against BA’s patient offense, which drew nine walks. Hamilton absorbed the loss, giving up eight runs in 2.1 innings.
Next up for Beggs is a Monday matchup at Kiefer.
— Henryetta Lady Knights: Pitching Duels & Walk-Off Drama The Henryetta Lady Knights endured three nail-biters during the week. Against the Wilburton Lady Diggers, Henryetta dropped a 3-1 decision despite nine strikeouts from Allie Davis in the circle. Kynlee Wynne provided the lone RBI with a single, but Wilburton strung together key hits late.
The Lady Knights quickly rebounded on Friday with a walk-off 5-4 win over Pittsburg. Down 4-3, Henryetta tied the game in the third inning on a double by Mya Randleman, then sealed the win when Keegan Hamric drew a bases-loaded walk. Hamric also struck out six in her start, while Davis closed the door in relief.
That same day in Stuart, Henryetta edged Coalgate 3-2, fueled by Randleman’s two-RBI single and Maddie Rock’s 3-for-3 day at the plate. Davis went the distance, scattering seven hits.
On Saturday, Henryetta came up short against Panama 3-1. Cialee Watkins gave the Lady Knights their only run on an inside-the-park home run, but defensive miscues in the sixth inning allowed Panama to plate two decisive runs. Davis again pitched well, surrendering just one earned run over six innings.
Henryetta will face Lexington on Monday.
— Morris Lady Eagles: Big Win & Heartbreaking Loss
The Morris Lady Eagles had a roller-coaster tournament, opening with a rough 7-0 loss to Kellyville. Despite Brooke Thomas striking out seven in the circle, one bad inning doomed Morris as Kellyville plated six runs in the third. Thomas managed the Eagles’ only hit.
Morris regrouped in dominant fashion against Liberty, rolling to an 11-3 victory. The Lady Eagles scored five in the first and never looked back. Kailyn Fixico’s two-RBI double set the tone, while Rylee Rock added an RBI single. Patience at the plate was key as Morris drew nine walks and stole eight bases. Thomas and Rock combined for the pitching duties, with Thomas earning the win.
In Saturday’s contest against Okemah, the Lady Eagles suffered a late heartbreak, falling 4-3. After building a 3-1 lead, Morris saw Okemah rally in the sixth. Chyla Marris tied the game with a clutch RBI double, but Okemah’s Izzy Smith delivered the goahead RBI. Thomas again pitched well, striking out seven in a complete game effort.
— Dewar Lady Dragons: Offensive Explosion & Tough Defeats The Dewar Lady Dragons showcased their firepower Friday with a 25-1 demolition of Tulsa Rogers. Emmy Hall had the game of the week, driving in seven runs with a home run, triple and single. Jaycie Berry added four hits and six RBIs, while Dewar’s lineup drew 14 walks. Korbyn Anderson pitched two innings for the win, striking out four.
But Dewar’s fortunes turned later that day against Fort Gibson, suffering a lopsided 20-0 loss. The Lady Tigers scored early and often, powered by Miley Wafford’s four RBIs. Hall had the only hit for Dewar.
On Saturday, the Lady Dragons bounced back with a 17-0 win over Okmulgee, keyed by a ninerun first inning. Hall homered again, while Berry collected five RBIs on two hits. Berry also struck out six in the circle. The Dragons later faced Mounds and fell 10-6 despite leading 4-0 early. Anderson and Berry each drove in two runs, but errors proved costly as Mounds rallied with 10 runs in the second inning.
— Preston Lady Pirates: Tournament Contenders The Preston Lady Pirates had a strong showing at Rogers State University. They opened Friday with an 8-4 win over Westville, led by Kynlee Martin’s four RBIs on three hits. The Lady Pirates tallied 10 hits and played error-free defense behind starter Taylan Starr.
They followed with a 6-1 victory over Fairland, as Josie Cope pitched six strong innings and added an RBI double at the plate. Ashleigh Hurt and Alynn LeBlanc chipped in two hits each.
On Saturday, Preston dropped a hard-fought 3-0 pitchers’ duel against Perry, despite out-hitting them 5-4. Starr and Martin each collected two hits, but Perry’s L. Hughey provided the decisive RBIs.
Preston closed strong with a 5-1 win over Kansas, piling up 12 hits. Cope pitched a complete game and went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Martin and Starr also added multiple hits. The Lady Pirates again flashed excellent defense, turning a double play and playing error-free ball.
— Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs: Shut Out by Dewar The Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs faced a tough challenge in their lone highlighted matchup, falling 17-0 to Dewar on Saturday. Despite collecting two hits, Okmulgee struggled against Berry’s dominant pitching and could not recover from Dewar’s ninerun first inning.
