County schools post strong results at Stroud Cross Country Meet

The 2025 cross country season got off to an energetic start this past weekend as runners from across the region gathered in Stroud. Okmulgee County was well represented, with Henryetta, Dewar and Preston teams all competing and posting strong results. From elementary to high school, local athletes showed resilience, speed and determination.

The meet featured more than a hundred runners in several divisions, and county athletes claimed medals, posted personal bests and gained valuable early-season experience.

Henryetta’s runners excelled across multiple levels. The high school girls were paced by Stormi Waquie, who medaled with a 12th-place finish in 6:02. In the boys’ division, Cadyn Gillispie ran a strong 12:05 in the twomile to place 50th.

The junior high Knights also impressed: Keegan Hardgrave medaled 3rd in the girls’ mile, while Grayson Gillispie claimed 6th in the boys’ race. The elementary team added energy to the day with several top-10 finishes.

• Jeffery Webster – 73rd, 12:54

• Ty Goodner – 91st, 13:51

• Nick Vang – 100th, 14:06

• Kashton Montgomery – 102nd, 14:16

The Dragons carried plenty of determination into the Stroud meet. Adena Fowler was the team’s top high school girls’ finisher with a 6:43 mile. On the boys’ side, Parks Coble and Remy Martin both broke the 12-minute mark in the two-mile.

Middle school runner Emma Sample also turned in a solid 7:08 mile, finishing in the top 20.

Preston’s girls’ squad was anchored by Hayden Ryder, who ran a 6:55 to place 42nd overall. For the boys, Sam Criner led the way with a time of 13:18 in the two-mile. Depth on both sides highlighted Preston’s growing cross country program.
