Lady Eagles open season with strong performances
By Patrick Ford Editor

The Morris Lady Eagles have opened their 2025 fast pitch season with solid play both at the plate and in the field, notching a decisive victory over the Okemah Lady Panthers.

Morris began their season on the road against the Holdenville Lady Wolverines, quickly establishing control before storms moved in. The Lady Eagles were ahead 7-0 when the game was paused due to weather, setting an early tone for their offensive capabilities despite the incomplete finish. On Tuesday, Morris hosted the Okemah Lady Panthers and came away with a 4-1 win. The Lady Eagles struck first in the bottom of the second inning, capitalizing on an Okemah error before Alayna Fixico lifted a sacrifice fly to bring in another run, giving Morris a 2-0 lead.

An additional error by the Panthers in the third inning pushed the advantage to 3-0.

Brooke Thomas commanded the circle for the Lady Eagles, pitching a complete game. She allowed five hits and one unearned run across seven innings, striking out eight while issuing three walks. Offensively, Morris managed three hits on the night – one each from Fixico, Katelyn Sparkman and Tenli Barnett. Chyla Marris, Fixico, and Rylee Rock each tallied an RBI.

The Lady Eagles were aggressive on the base paths, swiping seven stolen bases to pressure Okemah’s defense.

Callie Coon paced the Lady Panthers with a 2-for-4 performance from the leadoff spot, while Izzy Smith drove in Okemah’s lone run, going 1-for-3 at the plate.

Maddi McGirt pitched six innings for Okemah, yielding four runs – two earned – on three hits, striking out one and walking four.

With two strong outings to begin the year, the Morris Lady Eagles are showing the pitching depth, defensive sharpness and smart base running that could make them a formidable team this season.
