The City of Okmulgee officially became a “Purple Heart City” in a special ceremony July 19, recognizing and honoring the sacrifices of military personnel who were wounded or killed in combat. The event, held beneath the solemn symbolism of the American flag, brought together city officials, veterans, community members and military organizations to pay tribute to the courage of our nation’s service members.
