Doris Jean Wright

Doris Jean Wright, longtime Okmulgee resident, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025, at the age of 94. She was born September 25, 1930, in Nella, Ark. to Samuel and Mona (Johnson) Garner. She earned her high school diploma in Waldron, Ark. She married the love of her life Thomas Wright in Fort Smith, Ark. They made their home in Okmulgee. Doris worked at Gibson’s in the jewelry department. She later went to work at Oklahoma State Tech, where she over saw everything that came and went in the warehouse, until her retirement in 1995.

Doris enjoyed fishing and spending time with her husband. She was a great cook and was often asked to make her chicken and dumplings. Doris enjoyed working with her hands as she quilted, sewed and crocheted. She was a longtime member of the Oklahoma Home & Community Education (OHCE). Doris was a faithful member at Calvary Baptist Church until her health kept her from participating and attending church.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Mona, September 25, 1930 – June 10, 2025

husband Thomas and son David Lin Wright. She is survived by her son, Darrell Wright and wife Kathy, grandsons Tommy Wright and wife Debi, David Wright and fiancé Jeanette Sweeden, ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, sister Cora Smart.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Okmulgee Cemetery, with Chaplin Halston Williams officiating. Viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2025, at McClendon- Winters Funeral Home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Memories, condolences, photos and videos may be shared with the family on Doris’s Tribute Page at www.mcclendon- winters.com.
