Organizers of the Roy Madden Spring Round-Up Rodeo have announced the cancellation of this weekend’s event due to saturated ground conditions and more rain in the forecast.

The decision was made after careful consider- ation and consultation with event staff and safety personnel. Recent heavy rains have left the rodeo arena too waterlogged to safely hold events, and with additional storms predicted for both Friday and Saturday, the conditions are expected to worsen.

“After much consideration and consulting, we have decided that due to all the recent rain and all of the forecasted rain this weekend, we are canceling this weekend’s Roy Madden Spring Round-Up Rodeo,” the Henryetta Chamber of Commerce shared in a statement. “The ground at the arena is too wet to safely continue.”

Safety and accessibility concerns were major factors in the decision. The arena grounds are currently too soft for livestock and riders, and the designated parking area – located on a nearby hill – has become unstable due to mud and deep ruts. Organizers noted that with the continued forecast for rainfall, the area would be unsafe for both participants and spectators.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience,” the statement continued, “but we feel it is in the best interest of all involved to cancel at this time.”

Fans and rodeo supporters are encouraged to mark their calendars for the upcoming Jim Shoulders Living Legends Rodeo this fall, when the community will once again have the chance to gather and celebrate the sport and spirit of rodeo in Okmulgee County.

Organizers ask that the public help spread the word about the cancellation and thank everyone for their understanding and continued support.
