The Okmulgee Bulldogs football team has officially kicked off a new era this summer under the direction of newly appointed head coach Dolphin Davis. With construction currently underway at historic Harmon Field, the team has temporarily relocated to the Okmulgee YMCA for summer conditioning and skill development. Despite the shift in setting, spirits are high and determination is evident as the Bulldogs lay the foundation for a comeback season.
Coach Davis, known for his high-energy coaching style and disciplined approach to player development, has taken the reins with one clear mission: restore pride and success to the Okmulgee football program. His leadership marks a turning point for the Bulldogs, who are working hard to “change the narrative” of recent seasons.
Spring football practices began Monday, June 2, with morning workouts scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. most weekdays. The early sessions are a critical part of the team’s “Summer Pride” program, which not only focuses on physical conditioning but also instills values of accountability, teamwork and perseverance.
The full spring schedule includes practice sessions through June 13, with times adjusted slightly on Monday, June 9 (7:30-8:30 a.m.), and a “TBD” session planned for Friday, June 13. Coach Davis and his staff are making every minute count as they prepare the squad for what is expected to be a competitive 2025-26 season.
Renovations at Harmon Field are a promising sign for the future of Okmulgee football. Though currently under construction, the stadium is being upgraded to better accommodate fans and athletes alike. Once complete, the team will return to a revitalized home turf just in time for the fall campaign, with hopes to draw fans, alumni, supporters and community out to the historic field.
Looking ahead, the Bulldogs’ 2025 varsity schedule includes key district matchups and local rivalries. After a preseason preview at Kellyville on Aug. 22, the team opens with road games at Checotah (Aug. 29) and Mounds (Sept. 5). The Bulldogs return to Harmon Field on Sept. 19 to face Beggs, followed by their Homecoming game against Roland on Sept. 26.
District competition intensifies in October with games against Kingston, Hugo, Prague, Heavener, Bethel and the season finale at home versus Kiefer on Nov. 7. All varsity contests are set to kick off at 7 p.m.
In upcoming editions, we’ll introduce readers to Coach Dolphin Davis and his new assistant coaching staff, who are working alongside him to rebuild the Bulldogs into a team capable of competing at a high level. The future looks bright for Okmulgee football as the program enters this exciting new chapter.
Stay tuned for exclusive interviews, player features and progress updates as we continue to follow the Bulldogs’ journey through the 2025 season.
Coach Davis has already held several meetings with parents and athletes, and more students are encouraged to put that foot forward and make a difference in the program.
