The Dewar Dragons baseball and Lady Dragons softball teams saw their impressive seasons come to an end this week on the grand stage of the OSSAA State Tournaments. Despite battling until the final out, both squads fell short in tough matchups against some of the state’s topranked teams. — Dragons fall in quarterfinals to Amber-Pocasset The Dewar Dragons’ quest for a state baseball championship was halted Thursday after a tough 6-1 loss to the Amber-Pocasset Panthers.
Dewar broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when a wild pitch allowed a run to cross the plate, giving the Dragons a brief 1-0 lead. However, the Panthers responded in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the fifth, plating six runs on four hits, including a clutch two-RBI double by Briar Anglin that turned the tide of the game.
On the mound, Amber-Pocasset’s Jackson Riley proved dominant, allowing only one hit and no earned runs over six innings while striking out an impressive 12 Dewar batters and issuing two walks. Dewar’s Aidan Tomlinson absorbed the loss, going 4.2 innings, giving up seven hits and six runs (all unearned), striking out five and walking four.
Offensively, Luke Hankins managed Dewar’s only hit, finishing the day 1-for-3. The Dragons also turned a double play defensively to briefly stall the Panthers’ offensive surge.
For the Panthers, Anglin and Kale Jones led the offense with two hits and two RBIs each, helping to secure their spot in the semifinals.

In Class A Slowpitch Softball, the Dewar Lady Dragons ended their season at the state tournament Monday after running into a powerful Arapaho-Butler Lady Indians team, falling 13-2. Arapaho jumped out to a commanding start in the first inning, scoring five runs including a solo home run from Jordan Lambeth and capitalizing on two costly Dewar errors. The offensive onslaught continued in the second with a triple by Lauryn McHenry, followed by a three-run homer in the fifth, also from McHenry, who led the Lady Indians with four RBIs.
Dewar showed resilience in the fourth inning, breaking the shutout with a solo home run by Emmy Hall to left field. Cali Thomason later singled in a run, briefly cutting the deficit to 10-2. However, the Lady Dragons were unable to contain Arapaho’s offense, which collected 11 hits without committing a defensive error.
In the circle, Thomason pitched all five innings for Dewar, giving up 13 runs (six earned) on 11 hits, walking three batters. Arapaho’s Reagan Schoeppach went the distance for the Lady Indians, giving up six hits and two runs, walking one.
Dewar’s offense was spread among several players, with Alyssa Baughman, Jaycie Berry, Kinsey Maldonado, Raygin Thomas, Cali Thomason and Emmy Hall each collecting one hit. Hall and Thomason were responsible for Dewar’s only RBIs. — Dewar Stats
