Well Done Foundation (WDF), a national nonprofit whose mission is to plug orphaned oil and gas wells across the United States, this week announced the completion of the fifth well in the Deep Fork National Wildlife Refuge Project with MPB Oil & Gas Deep Fork Plugging Division and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). This initiative focuses on plugging more than 110 orphaned oil and gas wells and reclaiming the well sites that will protect refuge visitors, subsurface and surface waters, wetlands, protected species and sensitive natural resources in the Deep Fork National Wildlife Refuge.
“This is a great milestone for the Deep Fork Project, and we are so thankful for the support of this community,” Curtis Shuck, Founder and Chairman of the Board at WDF, said. “We have a great team of Trail Crew who live right here in Okmulgee and the Deep Fork Plugging Division of MPB Oil & Gas from Paden, is doing outstanding work. We are all committed to doing our part for future generations, making a difference one orphan well at a time.”
This collaboration includes training and employing a local workforce, using local contractors, service providers and suppliers and working closely with the Oklahoma Corporations Commission to plug and abandon orphan oil and gas wells in accordance with state requirements and industry best practices.
Beginning the week of April 28, the team will begin working south of Okmulgee off the Sharp Road, in an area known as the “White Hills/ Rocky Shoals Unit” and the public access will need to be temporarily modified. Public parking will be concentrated at the Briar Road parking lots while this work is going on.
