Okmulgee resident William (Bill) Arthur Record was born August 31, 1947, in Tulsa. He passed at Glenwood Skilled Nursing in Glenpool on April 13, 2025, at the age of 77.
Bill was the only child of Alfred and Jensie (Brown) Record. He was raised by his Grandmother Etta Haikey and his mother, although an only child, Bill was raised with a host of cousins that were like siblings, creating a large extended family that cared for and loved him dearly.
Bill grew up in Tulsa and attended private schools in his early years. His freshman year of high school, he went to Jones Academy and graduated from Hartshorne with the class of 1965. Bill remained close friends with others that attended Jones Academy and enjoyed attending the Jones Academy reunions throughout the years.
On February 17, 1967, he married Cora Elizabeth (Liz) Bell and they were married for 46 years until Liz’s passing in 2013. During their marriage, Bill and Liz enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, being OU football season ticket holders and watching all types of sporting events. Bill was an avid OU Football and Chicago Cubs fan and an OU football season ticket holder for 29 years.
Bill worked as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He was an active member of the National Association of Letter Carriers union. Bill and Liz traveled to many of the NALC conventions throughout his career.
Bill enjoyed sports watching, playing and coaching throughout the years. In high school, he played football, basketball and ran track. Bill spent many years on the softball fields playing Men’s fastpitch and later coaching both Men’s and Women’s All-Indian August 31, 1947 – April 13, 2025
fastpitch teams, winning the All-Indian State Fastpitch Men’s tournament at Wheeler Park in 1989 and finishing 4th place at the All-Indian State Fastpitch Women’s tournament. He traveled many places across the U.S. and into Canada for fastpitch tournaments and later in life, bowling tournaments. He also liked to golf when he could make the time for it.
Bill moved to Okmulgee in 2013 and became an active member in the Okmulgee Mvskoke Elder community, attending trips, meetings and participating in fundraisers and other senior activities.
Bill was preceded in death by his grandmother, mother, dad, wife and two sons Robert Arthur Record and Baby Boy Record.
He is survived by his daughter Lynnetta and husband, Jason Eyachabbe, daughter-in-law Connie Record, grandsons – Robert Douglas Record, Austin Dean and wife Shianne Record, Aaron Jacob and wife Dominica Eyachabbe, Jariah Eyachabbe, great grandchildren – Layla, Levi and Luella Record, and a host of relatives.
Visitation for Bill was held from 1-6 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at McClendon- Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee, with a wake service following from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2025, at McClendon- Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee, with Rev. Eli McHenry officiating. Interment will follow at the Alex Harjo Family Cemetery in Okemah. Casket bearers will be Jay Littlehead, Cody Thompson, Mekko Tyner, Legus Hummingbird, Eugene Freeman and James (Major) McHenry. Honorary casket bearers will be Jason Eyachabbe, Aaron Eyachabbe, Jariah Eyachabbe, Austin Record, Charlie Bell, George Bell and Dean Hughes.
