Ranson Stephens put on a show April 3 going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and tossing five scoreless innings on the mound to lead the Beggs Golden Demons past the Chouteau-Mazie Wildcats 8-0.
Stephens sparked a six-run first inning for Beggs with a double and added two singles in the frame and again in the third. He also drove in two runs, while Colton McCoy matched that RBI total with a two-run single of his own. Kevin Monteque and Britton Martin each drove in a run with a walk, and Owen Holland was hit by a pitch to force in another score.
The Demons padded their lead in the third inning when Stephens singled to center field and another run scored on a passed ball. On the mound, Stephens dominated, giving up just three hits while striking out five and walking two across five innings of work.
Chouteau-Mazie’s offense was held in check, with Tayler Applegate, Lucas Grossman and Blane Battles each collecting one hit. Starting pitcher Seth Meyers gave up eight runs (seven earned) in four innings, striking out five and walking six.
The Golden Demons drew six walks and turned one double play.
