A strong pitching performance from Pepper Gallup propelled the Preston Pirates to a 5-3 win over the Haskell Haymakers on Monday afternoon.
Gallup struck out 10 batters across four and one-third innings of work, allowing only one hit and no runs while walking three. The Pirates used a big fourth inning to take control of the game, scoring all five of their runs.
Weston Cope delivered the decisive blow with a bases-clearing double that brought in three runs. Jayden Herring added a sacrifice fly, and Kaden Dean drove in another with a single to cap the rally.
Despite a late push by Haskell, which scored three runs on a walk, another walk and a single, Preston’s bullpen held strong. Hunter McElhannon closed the door with a scoreless final inning, striking out one and allowing just one hit.
Dean led all hitters with a 3-for-4 performance, while Herring contributed two hits in two at-bats. Cope finished with two RBIs despite going 1-for-3.
Preston’s defense backed up the strong pitching effort with a double play and no errors. McElhannon led the team with 15 fielding chances.
Preston returns to action Thursday in a road matchup against the Broken Bow Savages.
