Tigers advance in State Tourney
By Patrick Ford Editor

The Wilson Tigers delivered a commanding performance in their 72-55 victory over the Hammon Warriors in the Oklahoma State Basketball Tournament on March 5. The Tigers, led by the dynamic duo of Zion Shelburn and Ke’shon Shelburn, dominated on both ends of the court at the Big House, securing their place in the next round.

— Tigers Set the Tone Early

From the opening tip, Wilson established their dominance, outscoring Hammon 13-11 in a competitive first quarter. The Tigers hit their stride in the second quarter, adding 22 points while holding Hammon to just 11, heading into halftime with a 35-22 lead.

Wilson’s defense set the tone throughout the game, forcing turnovers and limiting Hammon’s three-point opportunities. The Tigers extended their lead to 20 points after a 23-point third-quarter explosion, all but sealing their victory heading into the final period.

— Offensive Firepower Leads the Way

Ke’shon Shelburn and Zion Shelburn put on a show, combining for 46 points to fuel the Tigers’ offense. Ke’shon Shelburn was particularly dominant, scoring 22 points on an efficient 8-of-15 shooting from the field, while Zion Shelburn added 24 points, including seven made free throws.

Aiden Barnard also contributed significantly, posting 10 points and providing strong interior defense. Anthony Wind Jr. was a key playmaker with six points and multiple defensive stops.

— Wilson Stats

• Zion Shelburn – 24 points (7-11 FG, 7-9 FT)

• Ke’shon Shelburn – 22 points (8-15 FG, 4-7 FT)

• Aiden Barnard – 10 points

• Anthony Wind Jr. – 6 points

• Taeo Gaines – 4 points

• Joaquin Rivera – 2 points

• Zachariah Tecumseh – 2 points

• Davyon Williams – 2 points The Tigers shot an impressive 41.1% from the field and dominated at the free-throw line in the second half, converting 82.4% of their attempts.

— Hammon’s Effort Falls Short

Despite Hammon’s strong effort, led by Brett Allen’s 11 points and Kellyn Bullcoming’s 10, the Warriors struggled to keep pace with Wilson’s aggressive defense. Hammon shot 50% from the field, but turnovers and second-chance opportunities limited their offensive rhythm.

— Looking Ahead

With this decisive win, the Wilson Tigers advance in the state tournament, looking to continue their impressive run. Their balanced scoring attack and defensive intensity make them a formidable opponent as they prepare for their next challenge.

Wilson will face Stuart at 8 p.m. Friday with the games being held at Yukon. Calumet, who defeated Duke 71-38, will face Dover who destroyed Braggs 60-36. That game will be at 6 p.m.
