Lady Eagles advance to Area Tourney

The Morris Lady Eagles, under the leadership of Coach Kelly Kindell, have secured the Regional Consolation Championship and are now moving on to the Area Tournament. Their next challenge will be at Verdigris on Thursday at 1 p.m., where they will fight for a spot in the State Tournament. Fans can catch the action via live stream on the NFHS Network, requiring a subscription or a single-game purchase.

— Lady Eagles’ Journey Through Regionals Morris’ path to the Area Tournament was marked by resilience and determination. After an opening-round setback against a highly ranked Keys (Parkhill) squad (#6), the Lady Eagles bounced back with consecutive victories: • Feb. 27 – Morris 39, Keys (Parkhill) (#6) 47 – L

• Feb. 28 – Morris 40, Prague 36 – W

• March 1 – Morris 64, Holdenville (#15) 56 – W With their Regional Consolation Championship, the Lady Eagles have kept their season alive, proving their ability to rise to the challenge when it matters most.

The Lady Eagles currently sit at 19-8 on the season.

— Regional Wrap-Up: Other Area Teams Conclude Their Seasons

The Regional Tournament also brought thrilling moments for other Okmulgee County teams, though many saw their seasons come to an end.

Henryetta Knights (17-9) The Henryetta Knights made a strong push in Regionals, opening with a dominant district win before securing a close-fought victory over Sequoyah (Tahlequah). However, their run ended against No. 3 Cascia Hall.

• Feb. 27 – Henryetta 66, Tahlequah Sequoyah 63 – W

• March 1 – Henryetta 58, Cascia Hall (#3) 84 – L — Henryetta Lady Knights (5-19)

The Henryetta Lady Knights also managed to pick up a Regional win before running into a strong Cascia Hall squad.

• Feb. 27 – Henryetta 34, Daniel Webster 26 – W

• March 1 – Henryetta 25, Cascia Hall (#16) 60 – L — Beggs Golden Demons (4-18)

The Beggs Demons battled through Regionals but fell short after a first-round victory over Marietta.

• Feb. 27 – Beggs 71, Marietta 65 – W

• Feb. 28 – Beggs 57, Dickson (#15) 83 – L — Beggs Lady Demons (14-10)

The Beggs Lady Demons had a strong first-round win but suffered a heartbreaking one-point loss to Silo.

• Feb. 27 – Beggs 48, Marietta 34 – W

• Feb. 28 – Beggs 44, Silo 45 – L — Okmulgee Bulldogs (10-12) The Okmulgee Bulldogs fought through overtime to pick up a win against Morris, but their season ended with a loss to Holdenville (#11).

• Feb. 27 – Okmulgee 72, Morris 67 – W (OT)

• Feb. 28 – Okmulgee 56, Holdenville (#11) – L — Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs (2-19)

The Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs fell in their Regional opener against Crooked Oak, bringing their season to a close.

• Feb. 27 – Okmulgee 26, Crooked Oak 41 – L — Morris Eagles (9-17)

• Feb. 27 – Morris 67, Okmulgee 72 – L (OT) — Looking Ahead

While several local teams concluded their seasons in Regional play, the Morris Lady Eagles remain in the hunt for a State Tournament berth. As they prepare for their Area Tournament matchup in Verdigris on Thursday at 1 p.m., the community stands behind them, eager to see how far they can go.
