The Wilson Tigers are headed back to the Class B State Tournament after an impressive string of victories in the Area round, showcasing their grit, determination and balanced team effort.

The Tigers, led by Coach Grant Proctor, mounted strong performances against Tupelo, Moyers and Varnum to secure their spot in the state playoffs. Meanwhile, the Wilson Lady Tigers fought valiantly but saw their season come to an end after a hardfought battle with Dover. — Comeback Kings: Wilson Rallies to Defeat Tupelo The Tigers found themselves in a deep hole against Tupelo, trailing by 11 points, but staged a remarkable comeback to claim a 64-52 victory. The game saw 13 lead changes before Wilson pulled ahead for good behind a clutch basket from Esiah King.

Wilson’s dominance inside the paint proved to be the difference-maker, as they connected on 27 of 47 shots from two-point range and controlled the boards with 29 rebounds.

Wilson’s offense clicked on all cylinders, as they dished out 24 assists on 32 made baskets and shot efficiently from inside the arc. Their defense was just as dominant, recording four blocked shots and 11 steals.

Za’brien Shelburn delivered a stellar performance, finishing with 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Wilson pulled away in the second half with a 13-0 run, fueled by Zion Shelburn’s dominant third quarter, in which he poured in 13 points. The Tigers showcased their range from beyond the arc, knocking down 10 three-pointers.

— A Round of Applause for the Wilson Lady Tigers Though their season came to an end, the Wilson Lady Tigers fought hard until the final buzzer, wrapping up an impressive 17-6 season. In their final game, they took a halftime lead against Dover before falling short 50-56.

The Lady Tigers bested Pittsburg 49-43 in Area play leading up to the loss.

Under the leadership of Coach Rikki Wolfe, the Lady Tigers displayed talent, heart and perseverance throughout the season. While their journey ended just short of state, their efforts on the court left a lasting impact, and the program has much to be proud of.

– The Wilson Tigers are now just three wins away from another State title, and all eyes are on their upcoming showdown against Hammon. Best of luck to the Tigers as they battle for championship glory.
