Jake William Hinshaw, 83, of Edmond, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, after a long journey with Parkinson’s disease. He was born to the late Horace Edgar Hinshaw, Sr. and Thadis Mae (Cotton) Hinshaw on January 17, 1942, in Shreveport, La. Jake spent much of his childhood in Lufkin, Texas. He graduated from El Dorado High School in El Dorado, Ark. He attended the University of Arkansas, where he graduated with a degree in chemical engineering.
After graduating, Jake moved to Okmulgee to work at Phillips refinery. It was during his time in Okmulgee, Jake met Maxine Buxton. They were married on July 4, 1969. Together, they made their home in Okmulgee. They had two daughters, Yvonne and Nancy. In 1981, Jake and Maxine relocated their family to Arkansas City, Kansas, where he worked for Total Petroleum refinery. Jake and Maxine returned to Okmulgee upon his retirement.

Jake would affectionately become known as Big Jake upon the births of his granddaughters Piper, Ainsley, Eilish and Emily. He was a loving and proud grandfather.
Jake is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Maxine Hinshaw, daughters, Yvonne Allred and husband Brad, and Nancy Frissell and husband Scott, granddaughters, Piper Allred, Ainsley Allred, Eilish Frissell, and Emily Frissell, brother Horace Hinshaw, Jr., cousins Virginia Bally and husband Andre, and Larry Eason and sister-in-law Marlene Strenge.
The family will receive friends at McClendon- Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee on Sunday, February 23, 2025, beginning at 5 p.m., followed by a rosary service at 6 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2025, at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Okmulgee, with Fr. Kenneth Harder officiating.
