Jackie Jackson

Jackie Jackson, age 77, passed peacefully from this life at his home surrounded by family on February 15, 2025.

Jackie was born January 2, 1948, in Hanna the son of Okchumpulla “Timmie” Jackson and Louella Mae (Red) Jackson. He attended Weleetka Public Schools and graduated from there in 1967. He continued his education on a football scholarship at Eastern State College in Wilburton. After one year, he transferred to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, where he met the “love of his life” Dianna Sue Barnoskie, whom he married on March 27, 1970.

They shared just shy of 55 years of marriage raising their son in Okmulgee.

Jackie graduated from Northeastern State University with a degree in Social Work in July 1971. He began working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Okmulgee and, while there, took two years off to attend the University of Oklahoma to pursue his Master’s degree in Social Work, graduating in 1977. He has also worked at the Standing Rock Reservation in Ft. Yates, N.D. and the Pine Ridge Reservation in Rapid City, S.D. Finally, he was working at the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Wewoka when he retired in 2009.

Jackie was baptized as a young youth, but while attending a camp meeting at Johnsville Baptist Church in Canada, he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior in August, 1991.

From that time on, he became “on fire” for the Lord doing what he could to please his heavenly Father, devoting his skills of carpentry in working at the Indian Baptist Missions campgrounds doing whatever work was needed; whether repairing or just mowing the campground.

Jackie enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports (basketball, softball, baseball) His hobbies included carpentry, fishing, and playing golf with his brothers.

Jackie was preceded in death by their son, January 2, 1948 – February 15, 2025

Christopher. His parents and seven brothers; Tecumseh Jackson, Billy Joe Jackson, Thomas Jackson, Joe Jackson, Louie Jackson, Andrew Jackson, and Jacob Jackson, three sisters, Lorene Buckley, Susanna Marshall, and Betty Ann (Hogshooter) Harley.

He will be truly missed by family and friends.

Officiating will be his pastor, Bro. Alfred Harley, Jr. of Fundamental Indian Baptist Church in Okmulgee, and Bro. LB Wildcat, Pastor, Calvary Indian Baptist Church, Tahlequah.

Serving as pallbearers are Gary “Bud” Guthrie, Anthony Watashe, Christopher Cheyenne Jackson, Yardeka Hogshooter, Rico Johnson and Jackson Frye.

Viewing will be held from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2025. Funeral Services will be held at McClendon- Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Okmulgee Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Indian Baptist Missions Camp fund, P.O, Box 72, Canadian, OK 74425.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Memories, condolences, photos and videos may be shared with the family on Jackie’s Tribute Page at www.mcclendon- winters.com.
