Tigers claim District Championship

The Wilson Tigers boys’ basketball team showcased their dominance over the weekend, capturing the District Championship with back-to-back commanding victories over Mason and Haileyville. The Tigers never trailed in either game, displaying high-level efficiency on both ends of the court.

Wilson asserted their dominance early against Mason on Friday, storming to a 99-24 victory and never looking back. The Tigers set the tone with a 53-12 halftime lead and put together an incredible 40-point run to extend their advantage.

Za’brien Shelburn led the Tigers with 16 points, while Wilson put together a well-balanced offensive effort. The team controlled the paint, securing 45 rebounds, with Shelburn leading the way with seven boards. Defensively, Wilson pressured Mason throughout, recording 18 steals, with Zion Shelburn collecting five.

The Tigers were also sharp in ball movement, dishing out 25 assists on 41 made baskets. Ke’shon Shelburn led with five assists in the contest.

Wilson followed up their dominant performance with another 100-point outing, this time against Haileyville on Saturday. Za’brien Shelburn (26 points) and Zion Shelburn (16 points, 10 assists) led the charge as Wilson cruised to a 100-35 victory.

The Tigers wasted no time, jumping out to a 42-7 first-quarter lead and never allowing Haileyville to gain momentum. By halftime, Wilson held a 79-11 lead, putting the game out of reach.

Za’brien Shelburn was unstoppable in the first quarter, pouring in 14 points. Wilson was lights out from beyond the arc, hitting 12 three-pointers at a 48% clip (12-25), with Za’brien Shelburn, Zion Shelburn, and Anthony Wind Jr. each knocking down multiple shots from deep.

Defensively, Wilson forced 15 steals, with Za’brien Shelburn leading the team with five. The Tigers also recorded an impressive 32 assists on 42 made baskets, with Zion Shelburn setting the pace with 10 assists.

• Charles Shelburn – 2 points – With these two dominant victories, Wilson secured the District Championship, solidifying themselves as a serious contender heading into the next round of the playoffs. The Tigers’ balanced attack, strong defensive play, and efficient ball movement will make them a tough matchup for any opponent in the postseason.

Up next, Wilson will look to continue their momentum as they prepare for the next stage of the playoffs as they travel to Earlsboro for Regional action on Thursday, pending any changes.
