A community gathering filled with delicious soul food, important conversations and local entertainment is set for Friday, Feb. 28, from 4-7 p.m.
The “Raise the Hut” Restoration Committee is hosting a Soul Food Dinner to benefit the restoration of American Legion Post 103, known as “The Hut,” with the event being held at the Dunbar All-School Association Center, formerly the Banneker Building, located at 401 E. 2nd Street in Okmulgee.
For just $20 per ticket, attendees will enjoy a hearty home-cooked meal featuring soul food favorites, including neck bones, pigs’ feet, fried chicken, beans, greens, cornbread and desserts. Guests are encouraged to dine in and enjoy the warm atmosphere while engaging in discussions that impact the community.
Beyond great food, the event aims to spark mean- ingful community discussions. Attendees will have the opportunity to:
• Discuss the possibility of restarting the Community Chamber of Commerce
• Talk about the upcoming County Commissioner District 1 election
• Recognize and celebrate local veterans for their service and sacrifices
