Later, Phyllis moved to Okmulgee, where she worked in finance before co-running Okmulgee Lumber Company with her son Ron. She later joined the Okmulgee Times Newspaper, where she worked for many years until her retirement.

A woman of faith, Phyllis had a deep love for gospel music. She was a talented singer August 14, 1936 – February 1, 2025
