Phyllis Mae Argyle

Phyllis Mae Argyle, was born August 14, 1936, in Chelsea to the late Urban E. and Klovia L. (Smith) Simmons. Phyllis left us and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 88 years of age.

Phyllis moved with her family to Enid at the age of two and then to Edna at the age of four. She attended Edna Elementary School and Oak Grove Rural Elementary before enrolling at Slick High School. In 1952, her family relocated to Oklahoma City, where she graduated from Central High School.

During and after high school, Phyllis worked in the office of Guarantee Laundry and Cleaners before taking positions at CIT Corp and Oklahoma Insurance Company.

In 1963, Phyllis married George Argyle and embraced the life of a military spouse, traveling to several states where George was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. Together, they raised two sons, Richard Dawane and Ronald Dale Argyle, whom she cherished deeply.

Later, Phyllis moved to Okmulgee, where she worked in finance before co-running Okmulgee August 14, 1936 – February 1, 2025

Lumber Company with her son Ron. She later joined the Okmulgee Times newspaper, where she worked for many years until her retirement.

A woman of faith, Phyllis had a deep love for gospel music. She was a talented singer and pianist, sharing her passion by performing at the Hoffman Fellowship Center for the past 23 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Fred Simmons, sister, Judy Simmons, two half sisters, Betty and Helen and half brother, Elmer Simmons, husband, George Argyle and a son, Richard Argyle.

Survivors include her son Ronald Dale Argyle and wife Anne of Okmulgee; grandsons, Ronald Dale Argyle, Jr. and Vincent Argyle and wife Brytni; three great grandchildren; brother, Dan Simmons; niece Diane Prince, all of Okmulgee; nephews Ron Davis and wife Rosie, and Michael Ray Simmons of Oklahoma City; and a host of great nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit the funeral home on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 12-6 p.m.

A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2025, at Beggs Cemetery.
