It’s time once again for the annual Okmulgee County Spring Livestock Show, where Future Farmers of America (FFA) members and 4-H students will showcase their prize livestock projects. The highly anticipated event will take place from Feb. 5-11 at the Okmulgee County Fairgrounds, drawing participants and spectators from across the county.
The livestock show serves as an important opportunity for young agricultural enthusiasts to demonstrate their skills and hard work in raising livestock. From swine and poultry to cattle, goats and rabbits, the event features a wide array of livestock competitions.
The show will conclude with the Premium Sale on Tuesday, Feb. 11, where qualifying students will have the chance to auction their top-tier animals to local buyers. – Schedule of Events Wednesday, Feb. 5
• 7-9 a.m. – Swine unloading & penning
• 9 a.m. – All swine must be in barn
• 9 a.m. – Swine check-in begins
• 12 p.m. – Swine Show begins Thursday, Feb. 6
• 7-9 a.m. – All chickens in place and check-in
• 10 a.m. – Chicken Show (Broiler pens followed by fancy, then showmanship)
• 1-2:30 p.m. – All rabbits in place and check-in
• 4 p.m. – Rabbit Show (Meat pens followed by fancy, then showmanship) Friday, Feb. 7
• 10 a.m. – All heifers in place
• 10 a.m. – Check-in registered heifers and weigh commercial heifers
• 12 p.m. – Heifer Show
• Heifer Showmanship immediately following
• 8 p.m. or conclusion of Heifer Show Saturday, Feb. 8
• 8 a.m. – All steers in place
• 8 a.m. – Weigh Performance Steers followed by Prospect and Market Steers
• 10 a.m. – Steer Showmanship followed by Steer Show (Prospect, Market, and Performance categories)
• 8 a.m. – All goats and sheep in place
• Weigh goats and sheep at the conclusion of steer weigh-in
• 2 p.m. or 30 minutes after Steer Show (whichever is later) – Goat Showmanship, followed by Doe Show and Market Goat Show
• Sheep Show immediately after Goat Show Sunday, Feb. 9
• 2 p.m. – All students who have qualified for the Premium Sale meet at the fairgrounds to set up for the dinner and sale Tuesday, Feb. 11
• 5 p.m. – All Premium Sale Animals and buyer baskets in place
• 7 p.m. – Premium Sale – Admission to all events is free and open to the public. With a heated and enclosed show arena, spectators can comfortably enjoy the competitions. The community is encouraged to come out and support the 4-H and FFA youth as they showcase their hard work and dedication.
