Okmulgee County Basketball Review
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR

Severe winter weather wreaked havoc on the schedules of Okmulgee County high school basketball teams this past week, with sleet and snow forcing tournament organizers to make swift adjustments.

Games were rescheduled, consolidated, or moved up to accommodate safety concerns while ensuring the tournaments could wrap up by Saturday. Despite the disruptions, local teams delivered exciting performances and added more chapters to an already thrilling basketball season.

— Henryetta Invitational

The Henryetta Invitational Tournament began earlier than planned, kicking off on Wednesday morning with a packed slate of games. Originally scheduled to begin Thursday, the decision to start a day early was made to avoid the brunt of the incoming storm.

Henryetta teams were initially set to take the court Thursday morning, and despite the changes, the Knights and Lady Knights remained focused. A statement from the Henryetta Public Schools’ social media emphasized, “Safety is our first priority,” as organizers worked to ensure a smooth flow of games amidst unpredictable weather conditions.

— Konawa Invitational Tournament The Wilson Tigers were slated to participate in the Konawa Invitational, but saw their schedule condensed into Friday and Saturday. Their Friday matchups included the boys taking on Konawa at 3 p.m. and the girls facing Wewoka at 4:20 p.m.

— Warner Eagle Cherokee Classic The Morris Eagles and Lady Eagles also saw their tournament schedule pushed back. Originally set to begin Thursday, their games were postponed and Friday’s action was canceled entirely. The tournament will conclude Saturday with finals featuring intense competition.

— Game Recaps: A Week of Hardcourt Battles Schulter Bulldogs

• Boys: Schulter secured a dominant 52-32 victory over Graham-Dustin, demonstrating strong defensive and offensive play.

• Girls: The Lady Bulldogs overwhelmed their opponents with a resounding 68-9 win, asserting their dominance early and maintaining it throughout.

— Henryetta Knights

• Boys: The Knights edged out Kellyville, 65-56, in a thrilling matchup. Skylar Greenhaw led with 25 points, and Talon Weaver added 20. The Knights’ strong fourth-quarter surge (17-7) was pivotal in securing the win.

• Girls: The Lady Knights defeated Kellyville 51-29 at home.

— Beggs Golden Demons

• Boys: Beggs faced a tough week with a loss to Hilldale, 80-41.

• Girls: The Lady Demons dropped their game 70-43.

Both squads were set to play in the Henryetta Tournament, with action beginning Wednesday.

— Okmulgee Bulldogs

• Boys: Despite a recent three-game winning streak, the Bulldogs stumbled against Catoosa on Tuesday, losing 93-42. However, they shone earlier last Friday with a dominant 66-39 victory over Vian, marking their third consecutive road win and pushing their record to 5-4.

• Girls: The Lady Bulldogs faced Catoosa in a close contest but fell short, 45-35.

— Preston Pirates

• Boys: The Pirates cruised to a 68-38 win over Morris, showcasing their offensive depth and precision.

• Girls: The Lady Pirates were overpowered by Morris, falling 53-19. Despite the loss, players like Ashleigh Hurt and Kyliann Doke contributed valuable points.

— Dewar Dragons

• Boys: Dewar continued their perfect season, extending their record to 7-0 with decisive victories. The Dragons defeated Maud 62-39 on Friday. On Monday, they won 65-14 against Butner. The Dragons have consistently dominated opponents, winning six games by margins of 23 points or more.

• Girls: The Lady Dragons displayed their formidable strength with a staggering 75-7 win over Butner, further solidifying their reputation as a powerhouse.

—

Morris Eagles

• Boys: The Morris Eagles fell to the county-rival Preston Pirates in a 68-38 matchup.
