Donna Ruth (Smith) Gunter, an Okmulgee resident, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, in Tulsa. She was 85 years of age. Donna was born Sunday, March 26, 1939, in Okmulgee to the late John B. and Mary Katherine (Puckett) Smith. On January 26, 1957, she married the love of her life, Coyie Gunter, Sr. Donna shared in her faith by teaching Sunday School, going to Bible study and attending prayer meetings. She was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church and in 1997, joined the First Assembly of God in Henryetta. Donna worked in Adult Services for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, baking and gardening. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Donna will be remembered for her smile and unwavering faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Connie Gunter; a son, Bobby Gunter; brothers, Charles Smith and John Smith; and a granddaughter, Emily Whitney.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Coyie Gunter, Sr.; children, Coyie Gunter, Jr., Debbie Gunter and Tammy Albrightson; grandchildren, Nicholas B. Basquez and Jessica, Amanda Beasley and husband Chance, Michael Don March 26, 1939 – January 2, 2025
Martin and wife Candice, Amber Wright and husband Charles, Brooklyn Gunter and Mary Putman and husband Danny; sisterin- law, Annette Smith; brothers, James Smith and Billy Smith; sister, Jean Lackey; 21 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many other family members and loved ones.
Friends could visit the funeral home on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 4-7 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at New Life Church, 1201 C Street in Henryetta. Interment will follow at Okmulgee Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Hank Miller, Michael Martin, Chance Beasley, Charles Wright, Richard Gunter, Jr. and Matt Hall.
