The Wilson boys basketball team fought hard at the 59th annual Tulsa Public Schools Tournament of Champions but ultimately fell in all three games. The Tournament of Champions was conducted Dec. 26-28 at the BOK Center in Tulsa.
The Tigers were the only Class B boys team to compete in the tournament. They played against Class 6A Owasso (eventual champion), Class 2A #1 Dale and Class A #4 Okay.
“We were very honored and thankful for the opportunity to play in the TOC,” Wilson Head Coach Grant Proctor said. “We know that the tournament field is the best of the best so to even be in the tournament was amazing. Our community showed great support of the boys.
“As the smallest school, we feel like we could’ve competed better although we did continue to get better each game. We are still trying to find our groove after a long football season. The lessons that we learned from this tournament will no doubt steer our focus towards the playoffs and help us in the long run,” Proctor added.

Wilson: 14 – 8 – 7 – 10 39 Owasso: 16 – 19 – 21 – 22 79 Charles Shelburn made the first points of the game with 6:05 remaining in the first half on a three-pointer that tied the game at three. After being down five midway through the first quarter, Ke’Shon Shelburn made two layups and a free throw to get within two at the end of the quarter.
Charles Shelburn opened the second quarter with a three-pointer to put the Tigers within one (18-17) with 6:56 to go in the half. Za’Brien Shelburn picked up his third foul 30 seconds later and Zion Shelburn picked up his fourth foul with 5:42 left in the half. At the half, Wilson trailed 35-22.
Leading the Tigers in scoring and rebounds was Za’Brien Shelburn with 10 points and six rebounds. Charles Shelburn had nine points and Ke’Shon Shelburn had a team-high two steals.

Wilson: 16 – 13 – 10 – 11 50 Dale: 21 – 21 – 21 – 18 81 After allowing Dale to score the first nine points of the game, Wilson responded with three consecutive field goals (one each by Za’Brien Shelburn, Andrew Wilson and Ke’Shon Shelburn). With 23 seconds left in the opening quarter, Anthony Wind, Jr. sank his second three-pointer to bring Wilson within 3
(19-16.)
Wilson made three three-pointers in the second quarter to keep the ball game close (Charles Shelburn, Wilson, and Wind each made a three.) In the final 1:37 of the half, Dale went on a 7-0 run to take a 42-29 lead at the half.
Wind led the Tigers in scoring with 13 points, he went three for four on three-point attempts. Wilson led the team in rebounds with seven while Zion Shelburn had four assists to lead the team.

SEE TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS, PAGE B2 Okay: 17 – 10 – 17 – 17 61 Zion Shelburn scored the first points of the game with 5:25 left in the first quarter which ended a 8-0 run for Okay. After Okay went on a 9-0 run, Ke’Shon Shelburn made two layups and the quarter ended with Wilson down 17-6.
To open the scoring in the second quarter, Talan Dobson made a layup and-1 with 6:40 to go in the half. Okay made a three-pointer at the buzzer to take a 27-16 lead going into the locker room.
Ke’Shon Shelburn made a three-pointer to put the Tigers within eight early in the third quarter. With two minutes to go in the game, Wind made a three-pointer to put Wilson within six (49-43.)
Wilson had three scorers in double figures – Zion Shelburn 14 and Ke’Shon Shelburn and Wind each had 11. Ke’Shon and Za’brien Shelburn each had six rebounds and four assists. Leading the team with four steals each was Zion and Ke’Shon Shelburn.
