Dragons raising funds for championship rings
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR

The Dewar Dragons, fresh off their State Football Championship victory, are rallying community and corporate support to fund commemorative rings for the team. With an estimated $20,000 needed to secure the championship rings, the Dragons have launched several fundraising initiatives to celebrate their historic achievement.

Last Thursday, the Dragons received a significant boost when First Family Federal Credit Union presented a $1,000 donation. Ashley Morris, representing First Family FCU, joined other representatives in delivering the check to Dewar’s Head Coach Josh Been. The credit union also extended the same generosity to the Weleetka Outlaws, another area team celebrating a State Championship. Led by CEO David Dykes, First Family FCU is challenging other businesses and banking institutions to step forward and support the Dragons’ fundraising efforts.

First Family is honored to support the Dragons and their incredible season, and this is a great opportunity for local businesses to come together and help commemorate a momentous accomplishment for these young athletes.

The Dewar community has rallied behind the team, with the Dragon Pride Booster Club spearheading fundraising efforts. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the club provides a tax-deductible avenue for donations. Contributions can be made through their GoFundMe campaign, which invites fans and supporters to help the Dragons celebrate their victory in style.

In addition to the Booster Club, the Championship Store is now live, offering a variety of team-branded merchandise, including T-shirts, hoodies, shorts, and women’s apparel. Each item is designed with the championship roster printed on the back, allowing fans to wear their Dragon pride while contributing to the ring fund. The store is accessible at Midwest Team Sports.

The fundraising effort has also attracted attention beyond Dewar. Allen Cotner, an employee at McLarty Daniel Dealership in Bentonville/ Springdale, Ark., facilitated a $1,000 donation from the dealership. Cotner, recognized as McLarty Daniel’s Employee of the Year, highlighted the dealership’s ties to Dewar clients and its appreciation for the football program’s significance in the community.

The dealership is extending its generosity by pledging additional donations for every vehicle purchased by customers who mention Dewar Football.

“It’s incredible to see how far-reaching the support for our Dragons has become,” said Coach Been. “We’re so grateful to everyone who has stepped up to help us achieve this goal.”

— A Call to Action

As the team continues its fundraising journey, Coach Been is optimistic about reaching the $20,000 target.

These rings are more than just a symbol—they’re a lasting reminder of the hard work, dedication, and pride these athletes have brought to Dewar.

The Dragons invite fans, businesses, and alumni to contribute, whether through direct donations, merchandise purchases, or sponsorships. With the championship season still fresh in the minds of fans, the Dragons are determined to ensure every player has a ring to commemorate their incredible season.

For more information on supporting the Dewar Dragons, visit the Dragon Pride Booster Club GoFund-Me page or shop at the Championship Store. Coach Been can be contacted at Dewar Public Schools.

Every contribution brings the team one step closer to celebrating their victory with pride.
