Obituaries

Lois Ann Mitchell

On September 14, 1947, a beautiful baby girl was delivered to Lucious Paul Lyons and Mattie McDade Lyons in Okmulgee. They named her Lois Ann.

Lois attended the historic Dunbar High School, where she received a strong foundation in her education. She later pursued her passion for caring for others by enrolling in nursing school, a decision that would shape her life’s work and impact countless lives.

In 1965, she met the love of her life, Jimmy Lee Mitchell. Their shared connection grew stronger over time, and they were married on December 27, 1967. Their union, which lasted for 50 wonderful years, was built on love, respect and unwavering support for one another.

Lois was affectionately known to everyone and had a heart that was as big as her spirit, always full of compassion for those around her. Her generosity touched the lives of many, and she shared her gifts with messages of love and kindness. Lois was a devoted mother, sister, aunt and friend, and her presence was a blessing to all who knew her. She had a special way of helping others, always willing to lend a hand or offer a kind word.

Lois loved to cook, laugh, and simply enjoy life to the fullest. Her sense of humor and vibrant personality would light up any room she entered, making everyone feel welcome and loved. She truly knew September 14, 1947 – December 11, 2024

how to savor life’s moments and brought joy to those fortunate enough to be in her company.

Lois accepted Christ at an early age, and was a member of Third Street Church of Christ.

Lois was employed by Ball Brothers, Okmulgee Terrace Nursing Home, and worked as a Dental Hygienist for Dr. Taylor for many years. Later in life, she took on the role of nanny to Dr. Taylor’s grandchildren. After many years, she returned to the workforce and worked for DVIS for many years. Throughout her career, Lois made many lasting friendships and created countless memories. Many of her coworkers became like family to her, and she treasured those connections deeply.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Lucius P. Lyons and Mattie Lee McDade Lyons; her husband Jimmy Mitchell; her in-laws Jessie and Lela Mitchell; and one sister Ruth Stevenson.

She leaves in God’s care her children; Barry Lyons (Janet), Tracy Keim (Jonathan), Jimmy Mitchell (Portia), Andrea Alexander (Michael), JaQuita Jordan, and Milton Jordan. Her grandchildren; LaKesha Lyons, Jimmy Mitchell III, Stephon Motte, Caleb Mitchell, Kaityln Mitchell, Sierra Motte, Taran Mitchell, Kennedy Lyons, Gabrielle Mitchell, Saraia Motte and Layia Keim; threegreat children, Taurino (TJ) Medina, Livianna Mitchell and Reign Xaiver Lee Barnes; siblings; Rita Murphy, Darlene Fisher, Lorraine Whiteside, Barbara Mangum, Stephen Mangum, Letha Hogans, and Alva Pannell; one special nephew Jaylon Ross; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The service to celebrate the life of Ms. Lois A. Mitchell will commence on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 1 p.m. in the most holy sanctuary of the Grand Avenue Church of Christ in Okmulgee. Brother Percy Lee West will preside.

You may visit her as she slumbers in sweet repose in the Chapel of Peace of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc. of Okmulgee on Thursday from 12-6 p.m.
