Juanita Rigney

Juanita Emma Rigney, of Okmulgee, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, at the age of 98. Juanita was born on June 7, 1926, in Inola to her parents, Joseph and Annie (Tadlock) Mc-Donald. Juanita grew up with four sisters and two brothers. In 2018, Juanita married her husband, Alva Rigney, and they enjoyed a happy life together.

Juanita attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, where she earned degrees in Elementary Education and Home Economics, with a minor in Accounting. Her love for teaching led her to a long career in education, starting with two years at Pryor Public Schools. She then spent 40 years teaching at Okmulgee Public Schools, where she was known for her dedication and passion for her students. In recognition of her hard work, Juanita was honored as an Outstanding Teacher by the state of Oklahoma. She also served as vice president of the local teachers’ organization, always working to improve education for both students and teachers.

Outside of her teaching career, Juanita was an active member of her community. She led a Bible study group for young people, sharing her faith and wisdom with others. Her kindness, generosity, and love for people touched the hearts of many, and her influence as a teacher and mentor will be remembered for years to come.

Juanita was passionate about many things, including cooking, sewing, fishing, and traveling. Her home was always filled with wonderful meals, June 7, 1926 – December 9, 2024
