Henryetta brings holiday cheer with Mistletoe Market
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR

The holiday season in Henryetta is about to get a dazzling upgrade as the Chamber of Commerce launches the inaugural Mistletoe Market and gears up for Shop Small Saturday. This highly anticipated multi-day Christmas event promises a blend of festive shopping, entertainment and community activities, running Thursdays through Saturdays until Christmas.

— A Grand Holiday Kickoff

The festivities begin with a special “Pack the Trailer” initiative on the first Friday of the market. Attendees are encouraged to bring unwrapped toys to fill a trailer destined for the Shriners Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. Adding to the cheer, Santa Claus will make an appearance for photo opportunities, and a six-piece Christmas band alongside the PSO Low Water Band will provide live music, ensuring a spirited start to the season.

“We’ve been planning this for a year, and it’s thrilling to see it finally coming together,” said Chamber Director Genny Mooney. “This event is all about supporting our local businesses while creating a magical holiday experience for families.”

— Downtown Transforms into a Winter Wonderland

The heart of downtown Henryetta will shine brightly at the market, located at 5th and Trudgeon, with eight buildings, including the Chamber’s headquarters, transformed into hubs of activity. Vendors will sell unique crafts and gifts, civic groups and churches will host interactive events, and schools will join in the festivities. Local businesses will stay open late, offering snacks, hot chocolate, and gift-wrapping services.

“We want to give a huge shoutout to our partners 3 Bears Sales & Rental and Ron’s buildings, they have helped make our dreams of the Mistletoe Market a reality,” the Chamber stated. “We could not have done the Market without them and their buildings. Thank you.”

At the center of it all stands a 12-foot Christmas tree, designed by a local engineer and a welding instructor at Green Country Technology Center.

“This tree is a masterpiece,” said board member Lyle Stogner. “It’s lit with synchronized lights and serves as a stunning photo opportunity. It’s a symbol of the creativity and talent in our community.”

Outdoor spaces will feature fire pits, heaters, and picnic tables, creating a cozy atmosphere for roasting marshmallows and enjoying s’mores. Vendors will have the flexibility to set their own schedules, balancing business with holiday obligations.

— Supporting Local Entrepreneurs

One of the market’s key missions is to uplift small businesses and entrepreneurs, especially those without physical storefronts. “This event is designed to give local vendors a platform to shine,” said Mooney. “We hope to reduce the need for residents to shop at malls or online by offering a vibrant, local alternative.”

The Chamber also plans to highlight local businesses on Shop Small Saturday, the day after Thanksgiving. Events will include a Small Business Showcase at The Briefcase, and a business bingo game, encouraging attendees to explore Main Street and discover local treasures.

— A Community Effort

The Mistletoe Market embodies Henryetta’s strong community spirit. Civic groups like the Lions Club and Rotary, as well as schools and churches, will participate free of charge.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, the events will be paused as the annual Christmas Parade will take place in downtown, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Burnett family has been chosen as the event’s grand marshals, and Santa’s sleigh will make a long-awaited return, provided by the city.

“This market is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of Henryetta’s resilience and togetherness,” said Stogner and Mooney. “We’ve had overwhelming support from local businesses and organizations. It’s amazing to see everyone come together for something so meaningful.”

— Final Preparations Underway

Setup for the Market began on Monday, with the buildings, decorations and materials arriving early. Vendors participating in the Small Business Showcase will transition seamlessly into the Mistletoe Market. Updates will be shared via social media and the press as the event takes shape.

Organizers hope the Mistletoe Market will become an annual tradition, growing in size and scope with each passing year. “This is just the beginning,” said Mooney. “We’ll learn from this first year and make it even better in the future. The goal is to make Henryetta the place to be during the holidays.”

The Mistletoe Market promises to blend the magic of Christmas with the warmth of community, creating a festive experience that supports local businesses and brings holiday joy to all who attend.
