Dragons to face Hollis Tigers tonight in semifinals

The Dewar Dragons are gearing up for a critical semifinal matchup against the Hollis Tigers in the 2024 OSSAA Class B-I Tournament. The game is set for tonight at 7 p.m. at Alex High School.

Both teams have shown remarkable performances this season, setting the stage for an intense battle.

Dewar Dragons

• 10-1 Overall (5-0 District)

• Points For: 651

• Points Against: 128

• National Rank: 67

• Oklahoma Class Rank: 3 The Dragons, led by Coach Josh Been, have been a dominant force all season, boasting a 91.7% win percentage and an undefeated district record. Their high-powered offense has racked up an impressive 651 points while their defense has held opponents to just 128 points. Dewar’s only loss came early in the season against Weleetka.

Path to the Semifinals

• Defeated Depew in the first round, 60-0

• Overpowered Turpin in the quarterfinals, 66-18 Dewar’s offense, led by standout players, has been unstoppable in the playoffs, averaging 63 points per game while their defense has allowed just 18 points across two rounds.

Notable Performances

• Opened the season with dominant victories, including a 69-0 shutout over Wetumka and a 70-8 win against Canadian.

• Demonstrated defensive prowess with six games allowing fewer than 10 points.

— Hollis Tigers

• 9-2 Overall (5-0 District)

• Points For: 406

• Points Against: 116

• National Rank: 193 • Oklahoma Class Rank: 10 The Tigers have had a strong season, securing a perfect district record and an 81.8% overall win percentage. Hollis advanced to the semi-finals with a decisive 30-14 victory over Drumright last week, showcasing their resilience and determination.

Path to the Semifinals

• Triumphed over Pond Creek-Hunter in the first round, 46-0 • Edged out Drumright in the quarterfinals, 30-14 Hollis’ defense has been a strong point, particularly in their shutout win against Pond Creek-Hunter. They will need to maintain that momentum to contend with Dewar’s prolific offense.

Notable Performances

• Showed grit in close games, including a narrow 28-26 loss to Tipton.

• Proved their ability to bounce back with a 60-14 rout of Mountain View-Gotebo.
