James ‘Jim’ Laurence Martin

May 3, 1933 – November 10, 2024

James “Jim” Laurence Martin passed away in Bryson, Texas on November 10, 2024, at the age of 91. He was born on May 3, 1933, in Detroit to Simon and Catherine (Sales) Martin. Jim graduated from Henry Ford Trade School in 1952 and joined the United States Army in 1954. After active service, he transitioned to the U.S. Army Reserves, dedicating a total of eight years to his country.

Jim spent many years working as a Program Supervisor for Junior Achievement, where he made a significant impact on youth. His commitment to the Okmulgee community was evident through his countless volunteer hours for various programs. The Ambassador program with the Okmulgee Chamber of Commerce recognized him multiple times for his dedication and service. Jim was an active member of the Worthy Sir Knight of the Fourth Degree (Knights of Columbus), the Okmulgee Historical Society, Okmulgee Chamber of Commerce, Okmulgee Main Street, Okmulgee Food Pantry and the Okmulgee Homeless Shelter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Catherine; and his brother, Simon Anthony Martin. He is survived by his children: Mark Martin of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Margaret (Peggy) Bennett of Kansas City, Kansas; Mary Dehart of Bryson, Texas; and Kelly Martin of Medford, Oreg. He also leaves behind grandchildren Bryan Bennett, Scott Bennett, Justin Dehart, Ryan Dehart and Christopher Dehart, as well as great-grandchildren Trenton and Trace Dehart.

A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Saint Anthony Catholic Church, with Father Ken Harder officiating. Interment will follow in the Veterans Circle at Okmulgee Cemetery.
