The Beggs City Council has released details from a third-party water rate analysis conducted by the Oklahoma Rural Water Association. The study highlights the financial challenges facing the city’s water and sewer systems and proposes rate increases to address the shortfall.
According to Beggs City Council President Chris Gore, the water system currently costs approximately $109,785 per month to operate, but current rates generate only $77,500 per month in income. This $32,285 monthly deficit hampers the city’s ability to maintain and improve its water infrastructure.
The analysis recommends a significant rate increase to cover operational costs and ensure the system remains functional and sustainable. The proposed rates are as follows:
Proposed Water Rates
• Minimum Rate: Increase from $25.50 to $42.50
• Usage Rates: $7.50 per thousand gallons, escalating to $11.50 per thousand gallons for usage above 11,000 gallons — Proposed Sewer Rates
• Minimum Rate: Increase from $21.50 to $42.50
• Usage Rates: $7.50 per thousand gallons, escalating to $11.50 per thousand gallons for usage above 11,000 gallons -According to a statement by Gore, a town hall meeting may be scheduled in December to provide an opportunity for residents to discuss the proposed rates and offer feedback. The City Council will vote on the proposal during its regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 13, 2025.
