Dragons dominate district
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR

The Dewar Dragons have had an impressive football season, ending with an 8-1 record that showcases both their skill and determination on the field. Heading into the playoffs, Coach Josh Been’s Dragons have secured key victories and are looking to carry their winning momentum into the postseason, starting this Friday with a matchup against Depew at Dewar High School.

Last Thursday’s win over Caddo on Senior Night, gave the Dragons their eighth district title in eight years.

The Dragons have now won nine matchups by 26 points or more so far this season. The Dragons’ season began with a commanding 50-24 win over Crossover Prep in Tulsa. They continued their winning streak in their home opener on Sept. 6, crushing Wetumka 69-0. However, the Dragons faced their first and only setback on September 13 against Weleetka, where they fought hard but ultimately fell short with a 36-20 loss.

Following the Weleetka game, the Dragons regrouped and went on an unstoppable streak. They traveled to Arkansas and defeated Dermott High School 51-20, then returned to Oklahoma for a series of one-sided victories. Dewar defeated Waurika 58-8 and continued to shine in district play, beginning with a 52-0 shutout against Savanna on Oct.11.

In the final stretch, Dewar remained unbeatable. They posted a massive 70-8 win over Canadian, took down Quinton 53-6 and closed their season with two more solid victories: a 55-8 win against Keota and a 47-0 triumph over Caddo on Nov. 7.

The Dragons’ resilience and strong team dynamics have been crucial to their successful season. Led by an unwavering coaching staff, the team has demonstrated consistent excellence in both offensive and defensive plays. Their defense has been particularly formidable, allowing no more than a single touchdown in their final four games.

As the playoffs approach, the Dragons are set to face off against Depew in their first postseason game. The Dragons will have the home-field advantage, playing in front of their fans at Dewar High School.

Kickoff is scheduled for Friday, at 7 p.m.
