As our guest at this week’s meeting, we were happy to have the Okmulgee High School Students of the Month, Parker Larabee and Nawaila Harjo, along with OHS Principal Amanda Thomas and Tonya Stretch.
Parker and Nawaila received framed certificate along with a little special gift from Okmulgee Lions. These outstanding students were selected by faculty recommendations for working hard and making an impression on the staff at OHS.
Principal Amanda Thomas was also our speaker, and she shared her story about growing up in Barnsdall in Osage County, attending UCO in Edmond and NSU in Tahlequah and receiving her masters from SNU Southern Nazarene.
Amanda’s vision comes from a quote of Fred Rogers, “Where there is a crisis, look for the helpers!” She is the helper and is applying that to her work with the students. At OHS, she is committed to growth and providing a focus on culture and climate. She loves to celebrate her students’ successes and encouraging growth every day.
Okmulgee Lions would like to say a big thank you, to all the support the community gave during our Pancake Day this past Tuesday. Also, a special thanks to some non-Lion volunteers, Jim Fredrick, Sue and Amanda from Safe Harbor and LJ who helped keep Mike out of trouble while making deliveries. The Presbyterian Church members who are so kind to allow us to use their church.
As the saying goes, We are stronger together, as the community of Okmulgee has shown.
“We Serve.”
