Dragons dominate Canadian Cougars in 70-8 victory
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR

In an electrifying league matchup on Thursday, the Dewar Dragons football team delivered a commanding performance, defeating the visiting Canadian Cougars 70-8. The Dragons, led by standout plays from both offense and defense, wasted no time in asserting their dominance, quickly building an insurmountable lead in the first quarter.

— First Quarter Fireworks

The action kicked off early, with Dewar making a statement on both sides of the ball. Just minutes into the game, Keelan Berry snagged an interception, setting the stage for the Dragons’ first score. Quarterback Peyton Kilhoffer connected with Ben Atoigue on a 12-yard touchdown pass, and kicker Billy Thrall added the extra point, putting Dewar up 7-0.

Less than a minute later, Kilhoffer found the end zone again, this time on a run, though the extra point attempt failed, bringing the score to 13-0. The offensive onslaught continued when Braelin Lewis broke free for a 41-yard run, followed by a successful two-point conversion from Bentley Thrall, widening Dewar’s lead to 21-0 with 8:30 remaining in the first quarter.

Canadian’s struggles persisted when Dewar forced a safety, making it 23-0 with just over six minutes left in the quarter. The Dragons kept piling on, as Billy Thrall added a 36-yard touchdown run and the extra point pushed the score to 30-0. Moments later, Lewis hauled in a 14yard touchdown reception with 4:23 left in the quarter, though the twopoint conversion attempt failed, leaving Dewar ahead 36-0.

Lewis wasn’t done yet. With just over a minute left in the first quarter, he scored again, capping a dominant quarter for the Dragons with a 42-0 lead.

— Second Quarter: Dewar Keeps Rolling The second quarter was more of the same as Dewar continued to dominate. With 8:23 on the clock, the Dragons scored again, followed by a successful two-point conversion by Terry Bush, extending the lead to 560.

With the game well in hand, Dewar rotated in their second-string and younger players. But the scoring didn’t stop there. Billy Thrall continued his impressive night with an 88yard touchdown run, followed by a successful two-point conversion to make it 64-0.

Canadian finally broke through late in the second quarter when Austin White sprinted down the field for a 72-yard touchdown run, and a successful two-point conversion brought the score to 64-8. It was the Cougars’ lone bright spot in an otherwise challenging game. Dewar’s Dillon Duke closed out the game with a 10-yard touchdown run with 2:19 left in the second quarter, sealing the 70-8 victory.

— Dragons Look Ahead

With the win, the Dewar Dragons improve to 6-1 on the season. The team has been a powerhouse in the B-I District 4 (8 Man) league, and Thursday’s game was a testament to their dominance. Dewar’s offense was firing on all cylinders, while their defense consistently frustrated the Cougars, forcing turnovers and stifling their ability to get into scoring position.

The Dragons now turn their attention to their next matchup against the Quinton Savages. Quinton enters the game with a 3-4 record and is coming off a 42-0 loss to Keota. Dewar will look to continue their winning streak and maintain their stronghold in district play.

As for Canadian, the Cougars will regroup and look to bounce back in their next game as they continue to navigate a challenging season.

— Key Performances

• Peyton Kilhoffer played a pivotal role in leading Dewar’s offense, contributing with both a passing and rushing touchdown in the first quarter.

• Braelin Lewis was unstoppable, racking up three touchdowns, including a 41-yard run and a 14-yard reception, highlighting his versatility on the field.

• Billy Thrall had a stellar game, scoring on both a 36-yard run and an electrifying 88-yard run in the second quarter.

• Keelan Berry and Ethan Hotema each recorded key interceptions, further tilting momentum in Dewar’s favor.

-The Dragons will look to build on this dominant performance as they continue their push toward the postseason.

This Thursday, Coach Josh Been’s Dragon travel to Quinton to face the Savages at 7 p.m.
