Okmulgee County Football Recap
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR

The high school football season in Okmulgee County has been filled with challenges, as local teams are battling for victories amid a season of ups and downs. Last week’s games saw a mix of heartbreak and triumph, and this Thursday promises more intense matchups as county teams prepare to hit the field.

— Bulldogs look to bounce back against Prague The Okmulgee Bulldogs are searching for their first win of the season as they prepare to take on the Prague Red Devils at 7 p.m. Thursday. Both teams come into this game hoping to turn their seasons around after tough losses last week. For Okmulgee, it’s been a particularly difficult stretch, as they enter this contest with a 16-game losing streak, dating back to last season.

Last Friday, the Bulldogs faced a tough matchup against Hugo and were outscored in every quarter, leading to a 45-6 defeat. Okmulgee struggled to keep pace, with Hugo jumping to a 26-0 lead by halftime. The Bulldogs managed to get on the board late, but the damage was already done.

Meanwhile, Prague also enters the game off a loss, having fallen 40-28 to Kiefer. With Prague now 2-4 on the season and Okmulgee sitting at 0-6, both teams will be hungry for a win and eager to prove their resilience. Okmulgee’s defense will need to step up to contain Prague’s offense, while the Bulldogs’ own offense looks to find more consistency after last week’s struggles.

— Morris seeks to break winless streak

The Morris Eagles are still searching for their first win of the season as they get set to face the Spiro Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Thursday. Morris is coming off a 36-14 loss to Antlers last Friday, a game in which they were outscored in every quarter. The Eagles will be looking to rebound and finally get into the win column.

Spiro, on the other hand, will be coming in with momentum after breaking their own six-game losing streak with a narrow 43-42 victory over Wilburton. The Bulldogs’ offense exploded in that game, with Brycen Graham putting on a show. Graham rushed for 120 yards and four touchdowns, while also throwing for 277 yards and two touchdowns. His standout performance gives Spiro hope heading into this week’s matchup.

Morris will need to contain Spiro’s dynamic offense and find a way to get their own offense rolling. With both teams sitting at the bottom of their district standings, this game presents an opportunity for Morris to turn their season around.

— Beggs to face Comanche in critical matchup The Beggs Demons will take the field on Thursday at 7 p.m. against the Comanche Indians in a matchup of two teams coming off losses. Beggs is looking to end a two-game skid after falling to Holdenville 32-14 last Friday. The loss marked the Demons’ lowest-scoring performance of the season, as they struggled to find the end zone.

Comanche is also eager to rebound after suffering a 48-7 loss to Dibble last week, their first home defeat of the season. Both teams will be entering Thursday’s game with extra motivation, knowing that a win is crucial to get their seasons back on track.

Beggs has shown flashes of brilliance this season, and with a 4-2 record, they are still in a strong position for a postseason push. Comanche, at 2-4, is looking to salvage their season. Expect a hardfought game as both teams seek redemption.

— Henryetta prepares to face undefeated Vian The Henryetta Knights are riding high after a thrilling 42-41 victory over Valliant last Friday, but they face their toughest test of the season yet as they square off against the undefeated Vian Wolverines at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Henryetta’s win over Valliant was their third in a row, and they’ve been dominant at home, with five straight wins dating back to last season. However, the Knights will need to be at their best to slow down Vian, who have been nothing short of unstoppable this season. Vian’s 48-0 shutout of Atoka last Friday was their fifth win by 31 points or more.

The Wolverines’ Masyn Wright continues to be a force to be reckoned with, rushing for 179 yards and four touchdowns on only six carries in his last game. He’s also a threat in the passing game, making him a dual-threat player Henryetta will have to game plan for. The Knights will be looking to avenge a tough 49-14 loss to Vian from last season and maintain their winning streak at home.

— Dewar looks to keep rolling against Canadian The Dewar Dragons are coming off a dominant 52-0 win over the Savanna Bulldogs last Friday and will look to keep their hot streak alive as they host the Canadian Cougars at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Dragons have now improved their record to 5-1 and are eyeing another victory to solidify their position at the top of the standings.

Canadian, on the other hand, enters the game with a 1-5 record after a tough 52-6 loss to Keota. Dewar will be heavily favored in this matchup, and their high-powered offense, combined with a stifling defense, should present significant challenges for Canadian.

With key games ahead, Dewar will want to build on their recent success and keep their momentum going as they march toward the postseason.

— Wilson travels to Arkoma for big matchup The Wilson Tigers will be hitting the road to face the Arkoma Mustangs at 7 p.m. Thursday, with both teams coming off big wins. Wilson crushed Webbers Falls 46-0 at home last Thursday, extending their home winning streak to three games and boosting their season record to 4-1.

Arkoma is also riding high after a 38-6 blowout win over Gans. The Mustangs’ defense was stellar in that game, forcing four fumbles, while their offense built a 26-0 lead by halftime. Keith Niles led the defensive effort, recovering two of the forced fumbles himself.

Both teams will be eager to keep their momentum going as they battle for positioning in their district. Wilson will look to continue their winning ways on the road, while Arkoma will aim to protect their 5-1 record in what promises to be a tightly contested game.
