Obituaries

Betty “Lagina” Gaines

Betty “Lagina” Gaines was born January 3, 1970, and passed away September 30, 2024.

On January 3, 1970, God blessed Melvin and Lamisha (Jones) Gaines with a beautiful daughter. She was named Lagina Lynn. She was their pride and joy. As a young girl, she was a member of Handy’s Chapel AME church.

She attended Beggs Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1988. During her school days, she participated in New Homemakers of America, Pep Club and was a cheerleader. After graduating, she attended Tulsa Junior College where she received her Associate Degree in Travel in 1990. Gina moved to Oklahoma City where she lived for some time. Due to health reasons, she moved back to Beggs to be near her family.

On September 30, 2024, Gina was called home in Tulsa, after a lengthy illness. Preceding her passing were her grandparents Betty Lewis, AD and Pauline Gaines, three uncles and one aunt.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her parents Melvin and Lamisha Gaines; sons Kejuan Gaines of Okmulgee and Keonte Osborn of Dallas; three beautiful grandchildren that she loved dearly, Kamri, Kaxton January 3, 1970 – September 30, 2024

and Khyar; three siblings, Kenyonna (Derrick) Williams, Melvin Gaines, Jr. and Melva Gaines; three aunts and two uncles, along with special friend Alisa Redeau and Shannie Craven; Godmother Regina Thompson and a host of relatives and friends.

The Hour of Remembrance for Lagina will commence on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. McKinley Rice is the gracious host Pastor, and Rev. Greg Lewis, Pastor of First Baptist Church-South in Beggs, will bring forth the eulogy.

Burial will follow at New Post Oak Cemetery northwest of Beggs.

You may visit her as she slumbers in sweet repose in the Chapel of Peace of Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc. of Okmulgee on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 1-7 p.m.
