The Beggs Lady Golden Demons softball team, under the leadership of Coach Danny Phillips, wrapped up their 2024 season with a solid 17-13 record, marking their first winning season in three years. It was a year filled with challenges, triumphs, and growth, as the team battled through the highs and lows of competition to emerge stronger.

The Lady Demons’ journey came to a close in the regional tournament, where they finished as runners-up. Their regional opener saw a tough 5-2 loss to Kansas, setting the stage for a dramatic comeback. With determination and grit, the Lady Demons bounced back the next day, storming to a 10-0 lead and securing a 10-4 victory over Kansas in a revenge match that showed their resilience.

Next up was a clash with Valliant, the hosting team and a strong contender from the formidable Silo and Tishomingo district. The Lady Demons knew they were up against a powerhouse, as Silo is widely known for having one of the best programs in high school softball. The game was a hard-fought battle from start to finish, with both teams locked in a close contest. Despite several opportunities, Beggs fell just short, losing 2-1 in a tight 7-inning game. Though the loss was tough, it only fueled the team’s hunger for more, knowing they were on the verge of a regional title.

Not only did the Lady Demons achieve a winning season, but they also competed fiercely against some of the best teams in the state. Two of their narrow losses – 4-3 and 3-2 – were against teams that are now headed to the State Championships. Additionally, six of their losses came against district teams still in the hunt for a championship.

The Lady Demons can walk away with their heads held high, especially the seniors, who played a key role in laying the foundation for the future of Beggs softball.

A social media post stated, “Iron sharpens iron,” and the experience of battling top-level competition will only make the Lady Demons stronger. With the determination and growth they’ve shown this year, Beggs is poised to make waves in Class 3A next season.
