Pirates win regionals
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR

The Preston Pirates baseball team is heading back to the State Tournament after a dominant performance in the Regional Tournament, where they secured the championship with two consecutive wins against Howe, 11-0 and 11-1. Under the leadership of Coach Ryan Hudson, the Pirates have now earned their fourth straight trip to the State Tournament, cementing their status as one of the top teams in the state.

Throughout the Regional Tournament, Preston showcased their depth and talent on both sides of the ball. In their opening game, the Pirates jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, cruising to a comfortable victory behind a strong pitching performance from their ace, who struck out nine while allowing just two runs. The Pirates’ bats were equally impressive, with key hits from seniors and underclassmen alike fueling their offensive charge.

In the semifinals, Preston faced a tougher test, but timely hitting and solid defense allowed them to pull ahead late in the game. The Pirates’ lineup proved its versatility, with clutch at-bats from multiple players. A go-ahead double in the sixth inning gave Preston the lead, and their bullpen closed out the win, sending them to the Regional final.

The championship game was a showcase of Preston’s resilience. Down early, the Pirates rallied with a four-run fifth inning to take control of the game. Stellar pitching in the later innings sealed the victory, punching their ticket to the State Tournament once again.

Preston’s journey to the State Tournament has been fueled by standout performances from their veteran players, as well as contributions from younger athletes who have stepped up in key moments. With their sights now set on the State title, the Pirates are entering the tournament with confidence and momentum.

The opening round of play is Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Yukon High School. A win will pit them at Yukon High School against the winner of the Calera/Tushka game Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Tickets to the State tournament games are available on ossaa.com.

That game is Saturday at 11 a.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
