Teams gear up for postseason
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR

As the 2024 fast-pitch softball season approaches its high-stakes climax, Okmulgee County high school teams are preparing for critical regional tournaments, with aspirations of advancing to the state competitions. The Regional Tournament for Classes 2A through B is set for Oct. 10-12, while the Class 6A through 3A State Tournament follows on Oct. 17-19.

— Wilson Lady Tigers

The Wilson Lady Tigers hit the road for a Thursday battle at Whitesboro, where they will face the Smithville Lady Braves at 2 p.m. Should they falter in the opening game, the team will have another opportunity at 4 p.m. against the winner of the Whitesboro vs. Strother matchup. A win in their opener would push Wilson into the next game scheduled for 6 p.m., as they vie for a spot in the state tournament.

— Dewar Lady Dragons

The Dewar Lady Dragons are set to host Quinton in their opening regional game on Thursday at 12 noon. With home-field advantage, the Lady Dragons are looking to secure a strong start in front of their supporters.

— Preston Lady Pirates

The Preston Lady Pirates, who have been dominant all season, will also take the field at home on Thursday, hosting Merritt in a noon showdown. Coach Jimmy Hurst and his squad are eager to maintain their impressive form and take another step toward a deep postseason run.

— Morris Lady Eagles

The Morris Lady Eagles head to Tahlequah to face off against Sequoyah in their first regional matchup, which also kicks off at 12 noon on Thursday. The Lady Eagles have been preparing rigorously for this challenge as they aim to advance further in the tournament.

— Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs

The Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs face one of their toughest tests of the season, traveling to Silo Thursday to play the Lady Rebels at 12 noon. Okmulgee, led by a strong group of players, will need to bring their A-game to compete against one of the best teams in the state.

— Beggs Lady Demons

The Beggs Lady Demons are headed to Valliant Thursday, where they will face the Kansas Lady Comets at 12 noon. After an up-and-down regular season, Beggs looks to make a statement in regional play.

— Henryetta Lady Knights

The Henryetta Lady Knights face a tough opening regional matchup as they travel to Adair to take on Tishomingo at 2 p.m. on Thursday. The Lady Knights have their sights set on a deep postseason run, but they will need a strong start to get past a formidable opponent.
