Rita Elizabeth Laymon

Rita Elizabeth Laymon of Okmulgee peacefully passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the age of 67. Born on April 13, 1957, in Winnfield, La. to Billie and Gladys (Finlay) Evans, Rita’s life was marked by compassion, love and a deep commitment to caring for others.

Rita found her soulmate in Barry Laymon. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Rita dedicated her career to nursing, a profession that perfectly aligned with her selfless nature and passion for helping others.

Beyond her work, Rita had a love for reading and a special fondness for the color purple, both of which brought her joy and comfort throughout her life.

Rita is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Billie and Gladys Evans. She leaves behind a legacy of love and many treasured memories with her family: her devoted husband, Barry Laymon; her daughter, Emily, and son-in-law, Chuck Smith; brother in law, Bill Laymon and wife Donna; her sisters, Billie Watkins and her husband Kenny, Angie Thurman (widow), and Susan Harmon and her husband Larry; her April 13, 1957 – September 30, 2024

brother, Ethan Evans and his wife Dusty; and her 12 nephews. Rita also leaves behind numerous other loving relatives and a host of dear friends.

Pallbearers will be Will Watkins, Michael Watkins, Joseph Watkins, Josh Cabaniss, Adam Thurmon and Sunny Laymon.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Schaudt Okmulgee Chapel. The funeral service will take place at Calvary Baptist Church in Okmulgee on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Johnny Wagner officiating. A graveside service will follow at Wilson Salt Creek Cemetery.
