Dewar upset by Weleetka
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR

The Dewar Dragons’ home-field dominance came to an abrupt end last Friday as the Weleetka Outlaws delivered a 36-20 defeat, breaking Dewar’s seven-game home winning streak dating back to last season. Despite Dewar’s recent success in their matchups with Weleetka, the Outlaws proved unstoppable this time around, improving their undefeated record to 3-0 for the season.

Peyton Kilhoffer put Dewar on the board first with an 11-yard scamper with 5:52 in the first quarter. The extra point attempt was blocked by Weleetka.

The Outlaws scored with 25 seconds left in the first half and a failed two-point conversion tied the game.

Naea Corbin caught a short pass from Kilhoffer to put the Dragons up by six in the second quarter, but a two-point conversion failed again.

Weleetka scored at 8:46 in the second quarter on a pass to Isaac Drake to tie the game, but again, the two-point conversion failed.

A short time later, Weleetka intercepted a Kilhoffer pass, and in the ensuing plays, a pass to Isaac Drake ended with 90-yard touchdown run with 4:39 left and the two-point game put the game at 20-12.

Braelin Lewis scored at 5:44 in the third quarter on a short run to put the Dragons and the successful two-point conversion put Dewar down by eight, 28-20.

Dewar wasn’t able to get into the end-zone again before the final buzzer.

For Dewar, the loss marked their first defeat of the season, dropping their record to 2-1. The Dragons had been riding a hot streak, but Weleetka’s well-rounded attack left them searching for answers.

Weleetka will have a break before their next game, a matchup against the Wilson Tigers on Sep. 27 at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, Dewar will hit the road – for a long trip – to face Dermott (Arkansas) this Friday at 6 p.m. The Dragons will be eager to extend their six-game road winning streak and bounce back from their home loss.

For those not able to make the trip, the game will be broadcast on DewarDragons.tv.
