Beggs tops Knights in 34-25 thriller
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR

The Beggs Golden Demons emerged victorious over the Henryetta Knights on Homecoming Night last Friday, winning 34-25. The game was a back-and-forth battle, but Beggs’ early lead and standout performances from key players proved too much for Henryetta to overcome.

Beggs started strong, taking control in the first quarter with two early touchdowns. Quarterback Billy Ramsey connected with wide receiver Ryan Grayson twice, first on a 9-yard pass and then on a 38-yard strike, giving Beggs a 13-0 lead. Ramsey, who had an outstanding night, went 17-for-22 for 278 yards and five touchdowns.

Henryetta struggled to keep pace in the first quarter but found some momentum in the second. Running back William Perez broke free for a 31-yard touchdown run, narrowing the gap to 13-7. However, Beggs responded quickly, with Ramsey throwing a 68-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Johnson and a 29-yard pass to Jordon Wesley, extending the lead to 27-7.

Right before halftime, the Knights gave themselves a glimmer of hope. Quarterback Brady Norman connected with Nathan Nail on a 6-yard touchdown pass as time expired, cutting the deficit to 27-13.

Both teams battled defensively in the third quarter, but it was Beggs that broke through. Ramsey continued his aerial assault, finding Cooper Carson for a 37-yard touchdown pass to increase Beggs’ lead to 34-13. Carson also had a standout game on defense, recording an incredible 20 tackles to stymie Henryetta’s offense.

Despite trailing by 21 points entering the fourth quarter, the Knights refused to go quietly. Perez led the charge, scoring on a 6-yard run early in the fourth to make it 34-19. Later in the quarter, Norman found Perez again, this time on a 63-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the score to 34-25 with 7:13 left in the game.

Henryetta’s defense held strong for the remainder of the game, but the offense couldn’t find the end zone again as time expired, sealing the 34-25 victory for Beggs.

Billy Ramsey’s remarkable performance for Beggs was the driving force behind the Demons’ win, as he threw for 278 yards and five touchdowns. Carson Cooper anchored the defense with 20 tackles, ensuring that the Demons remained in control for most of the night.

For Henryetta, William Perez stood out, scoring three touchdowns – two rushing and one receiving – and providing much of the Knights’ offense. Quarterback Brady Norman also put up a valiant effort, throwing for two touchdowns in the loss.

With the win, Beggs improved their season record to 2-0, as they will welcome the Okmulgee Bulldogs in non-district action Friday.

The Knights and Coach Weston McGill will look to regroup, heal and bounce back next week as they will be off this Friday. The Knights are 2-1.
