The Dewar Lady Dragons rode a huge fifth inning to an 8-0 victory over the Quinton Lady Savages on Monday, breaking the game wide open with seven runs and securing the win in just five innings.
The offensive surge in the fifth inning started with an error that allowed one run to score. Emma Bear then delivered a clutch bases- loaded triple, driving in three runs to extend Dewar’s lead. Emmy Hall followed with an RBI single, Jaycie Berry grounded out to bring in another run and Kinsey Maldonado capped the inning with an RBI sin- gle.
Dewar’s first run came in the third inning when a steal of home put them on the board.
Temperance Parker was outstanding in the circle for the Lady Dragons, allowing only four hits while striking out four and walking none over five innings. Her dominance helped keep Quinton off the scoreboard, and Dewar’s defense held strong throughout the game.
Emma Bear’s triple was the highlight of the Lady Dragons’ offensive effort, as she finished the game with three RBIs. Emmy Hall and Kinsey Maldonado also had strong performances at the plate, each collecting two hits. Alyssa Baughman showcased her speed on the base paths, stealing three bases, while Dewar as a team tallied four steals and drew five walks.
For Quinton, Lillee Powell took the loss, pitching all five innings and allowing eight runs (five earned) on eight hits, striking out one and walking five. Mileigh Needham, Bailey Purdom, Teralynn Colston, and Powell each contributed one hit for the Lady Savages.
With this victory, the Dewar Lady Dragons will carry their momentum into the Mounds Tournament on Saturday.
