Preston extends winning streak
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR

The Preston Lady Pirates softball team showcased their dominance last week, securing victories in four consecutive games against formidable opponents. Led by stellar pitching and clutch hitting, the Lady Pirates displayed their prowess on the diamond.

In their first matchup of the week, Preston faced off against the Bartlesville Lady Bruins in a tightly contested pitcher’s duel.

Taylan Starr commanded the circle, recording an impressive 12 strikeouts while allowing only one hit over six innings. The Lady Pirates capitalized on opportunities, scoring early with runs in the second and third innings. Josie Cope and Kynlee Martin contributed offensively, each collecting two hits to support Preston’s 3-0 victory. The team’s defensive precision was evident as they played error-free throughout the game.

Continuing their winning streak, Preston triumphed over the Jenks Lady Trojans in a decisive 5-0 victory. Taylan Starr’s dominant performance on the mound included 14 strikeouts and no hits allowed through five and two-thirds innings. Offensively, Na’Braijhanae Phillips led the charge with timely hits, driving in crucial runs early in the game. The Lady Pirates capitalized on their offensive opportunities, building a lead that Jenks could not overcome. Preston’s defensive solidity was highlighted by error-free play and strategic pitching changes that stifled the Lady Trojans’ offensive efforts.

In a thrilling comeback against the Perry Lady Maroons, Preston showcased resilience and firepower, rallying from an early deficit to secure a 7-5 win. Trailing 5-0 in the second inning, the Lady Pirates staged a remarkable turnaround fueled by Na’Braijhanae Phillips’ two home runs and five RBIs. Josie Cope’s steady pitching performance and key defensive plays from the team kept Perry at bay in the latter innings, sealing another impressive victory for Preston.

Coach Jimmy Hurst’s Preston Lady Pirates record is now 17-2 as they prepared for the Cushing Lady Tigers at home Monday.
