The Dewar Dragons came out with roar at their season opener last Friday with a 69-0 win over the Wetumka Chieftains, which ended by mercy rule at the half.
At first, the visiting Chieftains appeared as if they were going to keep up with the Dragons, but several miscues and interceptions spelled doomed for the Chieftains.
Though the Dragons were able to dominate the Chieftains in the first half, there were several penalties that erased scoring points, but were recaptured on the ensuing plays.
Dewar’s defense completely stifled the Chieftains from ever entering the end zone, though they came very close on several occasions.
Special teams play was a key in the matchup.
Quarterback Peyton Kilhoffer was the hot hand with the ball, connecting with several receivers, including Benny Atoigue, Keelan Berry, Cash Faulkner, Braelin Lewis and Dakoda Smith. An interception by Tradyn Doty with less than 20 seconds in the half was returned touchdown, resulting in a final score of 69-0.
With the win, Dewar advances its record to 1-0 on the season.
The Dragons host Weleetka in a non-district test this Friday. The Outlaws come into the game with a record of 2-0.
