Community festivals approach for Okmulgee

Community festivals approach for Okmulgee

The 2024 Pecan Festival will not feature a carnival this year due to difficulties in sourcing one. Instead, organizers have decided to hold a Community Fall Festival on the same day as the car show, Saturday, Oct.

12, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Claude Cox Omniplex.

The one-day festival aims to provide a fun and affordable event for the community while avoiding the complexities and expenses associated with a multi-day festival. Area churches and civic organizations are encouraged to participate by hosting games, such as ring tosses and bean bag tosses, or by selling food and drinks. To encourage involvement, one 10×10 booth will be provided at no charge to each participating church and civic organization. Organizers ask that menus be family- and budget-friendly.

Craft and commercial vendors are also welcome to participate. Booths will be available to rent at a cost of $50 for a 10×10 space.

The festival will feature a variety of activities, including a showcase of local talent, bouncy houses, a car show, and various contests, such as a baking contest and a beard and mustache contest.

Organizers are seeking sponsors for prizes and ribbons. Those interested in sponsoring or participating in the event should contact the Chamber office.

The first Okmulgee Chamber of Commerce Car & Bike Show is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Claude Cox Omniplex. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with vehicle registration closing at 11 a.m.

The entry fee for each vehicle is $10. Prize money will be determined based on the number of entries in each category – car, truck and motorcycle. The public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite vehicle in each category. Tickets will be sold at six for $1, with categories including Best in Show for Car, Truck and Motorcycle.

For more information and preregistration forms, contact the Chamber office at 918-756-6172. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The community is encouraged to come out and support what promises to be a fun-filled day of activities.
