Morris drops pair against Pocola, Wilburton
By FIRST NAME LAST NAME REPORTER

The Morris Lady Eagles fastpitch softball team dropped a pair of games against Pocola and Wilburton last week, falling to 0-3 on the season. Below are the results from last week’s matchups.

— Big first inning leads Pocola past Morris In a game dominated by early offensive firepower, the Pocola High School softball team secured a commanding 12-1 victory over the Morris Lady Eagles on Thursday.

Pocola wasted no time asserting their dominance as they quickly built a substantial lead in the opening frame. A series of well-timed hits and disciplined at-bats allowed them to rack up nine runs.

On the defensive side, Pocola’s pitcher delivered a solid performance, limiting the Morris offense to just one run on six hits over four innings. Parker struck out eight batters and showed excellent control with only two walks throughout her outing.

Meanwhile, Morris’ Fire Clark faced a tough outing, pitching three innings and surrendering 12 runs (nine earned) on nine hits. Despite her efforts, Morris struggled to contain Pocola’s aggressive offense. For Morris Lady Eagles, catcher Paige Hall stood out with a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the plate, driving in their lone run of the game.

Pocola’s offensive prowess continued to shine as Parker led the team with four runs batted in, while Parga showcased her hitting ability by going 2-for-2. Lomon’s keen eye at the plate also contributed, drawing two walks to support Pocola’s offensive barrage. Defensively, Pocola maintained a flawless performance, committing zero errors and showcasing their fielding prowess throughout the game.

— Morris comes up short against Wilburton

The Morris Lady Eagles faced a tough challenge on Thursday, falling short against the Wilburton Lady Diggers with a final score of 7-3. Despite a spirited effort, Morris struggled to overcome Wilburton’s early offensive surge.

Wilburton seized control of the game early, scoring six runs in the first three innings. The second inning proved pivotal as Brooklynn Tomlinson’s double sparked a scoring spree that put Wilburton comfortably ahead. Mylen Anderson and Kenzie Forwordson contributed additional runs, building a substantial lead Morris found difficult to overcome.

Pitcher Maysen Anderson anchored Wilburton’s defense with a resilient performance, allowing three runs on five hits over six innings while striking out three and walking six. Meanwhile, Morris’ Fire Clark pitched five innings, giving up six runs (four earned) on six hits, striking out six and walking two.

Offensively, Fire Clark showcased her batting prowess for Morris, driving in two runs and providing crucial hits in the middle of the lineup. Leadoff hitter Alli Guynes also contributed with two hits, but Morris struggled to capitalize on opportunities, leaving runners on base throughout the game.

Despite the setback, Morris displayed patience at the plate, drawing six walks and utilizing their speed on the basepaths with nine stolen bases. Rhylee Whitaker, Abby Long, and Baylee Qualls led the team with multiple steals each, highlighting Morris’ aggressive approach despite the final score.

Wilburton’s Brooklynn Tomlinson and Shannon Stanford led their team offensively, each contributing key hits and runs batted in to secure the victory.
