Lady Dogs fall to Checotah
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR

In a game marked by dominant pitching and explosive offense, the Okmulgee Bulldogs faced a tough challenge against the Checotah Lady Wildcats last Friday, ultimately falling 10-0.

Checotah wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Shyanne Madewell grounding out in the first inning and Aurora Madewell stealing home, giving them an early lead. Building on this momentum, Checotah added to their tally in the second inning when Aurora Madewell doubled, extending their advantage to 3-0. The third inning saw Kenadee Jones walking in another run, pushing Checotah’s lead to 5-0. However, it was the explosive fourth inning where Checotah truly asserted their dominance, scoring five runs off three hits. Hailey Prince’s triple and subsequent RBI, along with hits from Kami Hamm and Sydnie West, contributed significantly to their commanding lead.

Hailey Prince, pitching for Checotah, delivered a stellar performance, allowing just one hit over four innings while striking out seven and walking two. In contrast, Ally Lowe of Okmulgee struggled against Checotah’s lineup, pitching three innings, allowing 10 runs on six hits, with one strikeout and 10 walks.

Offensively for Okmulgee, Kiera Swayze led the team with a hit, as the Bulldogs displayed solid defensive effort without committing any errors throughout the game, with Demaunii Williams taking the lead in fielding opportunities.

Checotah’s offense was led by Aurora Madewell, who went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs, contributing significantly to their run total. Their aggressive baserunning was evident with multiple stolen bases, totaling 21 for the game. Defensively, Checotah maintained a flawless performance, not committing a single error despite numerous fielding chances, led by Layna Vandiver.

Coach Ed Vaughn’s Lady Bulldogs look to regroup and bounce back in their upcoming games, including the Okmulgee Festival beginning Thursday.
