Okmulgee County commuters traveling north on Highway 75 towards Tulsa can look forward to smoother rides ahead, as the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has embarked on a significant bridge project aimed at alleviating congestion in the area.

The project, which began on Monday, focuses on constructing a new bridge over 141st Street, eliminating the need for traffic to stop at the current in- tersection.

The stretch of Highway 75 passing through Glenpool has long been notorious for traffic jams and delays, especially at the stoplight at 141st Street, the only interruption on the route between Okmulgee and Bartlesville.

ODOT has outlined safety measures for the project, including the closure of three median openings between 136th Street and 146th Street and intermittent lane closures on Highway 75. The construction, expected to conclude in summer 2025, aims to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for commuters navigating through Glenpool.

As the project progresses, local businesses remain hopeful that the improved infrastructure will not only ease congestion but also attract more visitors to the area.

More traffic is expected through the area especially with the recent opening of the new outlet mall in Jenks.

Another project affecting Okmulgee County drivers will be at the Preston Road/Highway 75 intersection that will begin soon. A new overpass will be constructed over the highway, also allowing traffic to flow freely without slowdowns, and cut out the risk of accidents, some fatal that have happened in the area.

Just last week, several vehicles were involved in a crash near the area. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and obey traffic directions in the area.
